The history and genesis of the German shepherd

Although some accounts claim that wolfdog forebears were present in Germany as early as the 7th century, the breed as we know it today only emerged several centuries later.

Its name conveys a lot about the German shepherd's past. It is thought to have started in the 19th century when the smartest, obedient, and most responsible German shepherds were crossed. Captain Max von Stephanitz is regarded as the ancestor of the race.

The first dog, known as Horand von Grafath, was produced towards the end of the 19th century.

German shepherds were used as working dogs in a variety of fields at that time and were known for their intelligence, speed, keen sense of smell, and power. They were in charge of protecting sheep and defending against predators. This breed was not regarded as a pet or a person's buddy during that time.

Due to their excellent traits, they were bred to be working dogs by the First World War and had gained worldwide recognition. The working German shepherd served as both a blind person's guide dog and a devoted police dog. This breed thrived in the function of guide for the blind because in addition to intelligence, obedience, and devotion, it is also distinguished by extraordinary patience.

The wolfdog serves a variety of purposes nowadays and is a beloved family pet and companion animal for many animal enthusiasts. Additionally, it is used as a police dog, military dog, working guard dog, tracker, therapy dog, and blind guide dog.

Training for German shepherds

German Shepherd lifespan and health

German Shepherd may live for nine to thirteen years.

The wolfdog should have a longer life with frequent vet visits, immunizations, healthy nourishment, care, and training. However, it is possible for certain disorders to manifest themselves, just like with other breeds.The nutrition, which is mostly determined by the growth and development of the dog in its early life, stands out as the most crucial component for this breed. In this view, it is important to limit the amount of food consumed in order to prevent the onset of certain disorders.

The size of the ears makes them more susceptible to developing different ear infections, and like other medium-sized and bigger dogs, the development of flatulence is also a possibility. For these reasons, it's crucial to provide the dog the right number and distribution of meals. Epilepsy and dental illness might also manifest themselves.
